Ultimate Geek

Yes, we all know I'm a ridiculously huge geek, but I think I've now surpassed even my usual geekiness limits. As a geek I love surfing the web constantly for information on just about anything, but mainly tech related stuff. I also love everything to do with Unix and Mac OS X. What comes with that addiction is a certain liking of the command line terminal. Soooo, how do you marry the two? Ditch your usual graphical web-browser such as Safari or Firefox and start using a command-line based text only web browser like Links. It's fantastic for browsing when you really just want the information on sites because there are no ads that show up and it's only you and the text. Also, you never have to take your hands off the keyboard, which is great as we all know how much geeks despise using the mouse! So, what's it like? Here's an idea, perhaps you'll feel the need to give it a try yourself, though I doubt it:

I'd say there's probably only one thing geekier than this, and that's Das Keyboard!

I GOT A JOB!

OK, so this may be old news for some people as I've actually known for quite a while (a week) but I finally got a job! Fantastic! Actually, it took a whole lot less time than I was expecting. I thought that I'd be going through the whole interview/sucking up process until about mid-November, but, it turns out that the banks are keen to get offers out early, and, quite frankly, the novelty of all the interviewing was wearing rather thin, so I decided to throw in the towel and accept the offer. That's not to say that I'm not happy with my job, in fact, the offer I plan on accepting is with my top choice firm (CitiGroup) and in the tope department that I wanted to work for (Global Transaction Services) which is a division of their Corporate & Investment Banking Group. Officially I will be an "Analyst in Global Transaction Services" working out of their 388 Greenwich Offices in Tribecca, New York City. The group mainly does cash management for multinationals, but has a significant technology slant in that they have to provide internet based platforms for their cutomers to do transactions with, which is right down my alley and the same sort of thing I was working on at Standard Bank back in 2004. I'm thrilled to say the least! Click on any of the links above to get information on the bank as a whole or my group in particular.
